As you begin this school year, take a moment
to write to The National Endowment for the Arts
and request a Shakespeare in American Communities kit.
The last few years in 6th grade we taught from this amazing
gift (which is free from NEA). Simply go to their
webpage and click Order Educational Package.
Consider hosting a recitation contest at your site, and you
will be blown away by the abilities of your students.
Literally, this contest brought tears to my eyes (and
those of a few colleagues). We had no idea
our students were so talented when they
performed their recitation piece.
As you know, Shakespeare will fit in with poetry
in some part of your pacing guide during the year.
Get students motivated and keep the arts
alive!!!
