twitter book club

here's the great thing about middle school students (well, 6th graders...)
you can "pretend" you are doing something on the internet
and they love it to pieces...

I call our intervention class a book club to trick these guys
and get them excited about reading...
it sounds terrible, but I trick them even more and say
we are going to TWEET about our daily reading.

Then I go around with post-it notes and ask a question
I'd like them to answer about the characters, plot, etc...

They love it and it's simple to grade (so much better than
a boring sheet of paper or a journal entry).

After a tweet, I just take my question (on a post-it notes) and
stack all of the students' responses underneath it...then
staple the pile up and make room for the next tweet.
The students can still go back and flip through and read
the old "post/tweets"...

It's so refreshing to hear that you care enough for your students to be so creative. (or deceptive :) )
